  • 1850's

In an 1854 map, there was no sign of the lake names we know now!

  • 1860's

On Walling 1860 map of Vermont, the first of our lakes to have it’s present day name, was Perch Pond. Martin’s Pond (Sunset) and Little Pond (Sunrise) still existed then. Interesting that Lake Bomoseen, at that time, was known as ‘Bombazine’.

  • 1870's

This Beers map from 1876 is the first appearance of Sunset Lake as the new name of what was Martin’s Pond.

  • 1940's

This 1940 map from a Chester VT mapping company shows lakes Sunset and Sunrise from the perspective of the Boy Scouts of America.
